BMW iX4 vs. Lucid Air puts two very different premium EV strategies side by side. The iX4 starts at $67,695 as a styling-led take on BMW’s existing iX3 platform. The Lucid Air starts at $72,400 and chases outright range and charging-speed records. Neither is trying to win the same argument.
Price and range
| Spec | BMW iX4 | Lucid Air (Pure trim) |
|---|---|---|
| Starting price | $67,695 | $72,400 |
| Platform range (comparable trim) | Slightly less than the iX3 it’s based on | 420 miles |
| 0-60 mph | Shared with iX3 powertrain | 4.5 seconds (Pure); 1.9 seconds (Sapphire) |
| Top Grand Touring range | N/A | 512 miles |

Why the gap is bigger than the price tags suggest
The iX4 is explicitly a styling variant of the iX3 — same powertrain, same platform, a sloped roofline, and actually slightly less range than its boxier sibling. It’s a premium SUV built on proven, cost-conscious underpinnings. The Lucid Air, by contrast, is Lucid’s flagship engineering showcase: its Grand Touring trim’s 512-mile range remains among the highest of any EV sold in the US, built specifically to top range and efficiency charts rather than to share cost with a cheaper sibling.
Which one actually makes sense
Choose the iX4 if you want an SUV body style, BMW ownership experience, and don’t need class-leading range. Choose the Lucid Air if range and charging speed are the priority and a sedan body style works for you — but budget for a price that climbs quickly past the Pure trim’s $72,400 floor.
